Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy: A Values-Based Approach to Facing Your Fears
What Is ERP Therapy?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is an evidence based therapy for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). It involves facing fears head-on by intentionally provoking anxiety and resisting the urge to engage in compulsions.
Unlike traditional ERP, which emphasizes habituation (getting used to the fear over time), our approach is values-based—meaning we focus on helping you take meaningful steps toward the life you want, rather than encouraging exposures that don’t align with your well-being.
How Is Our ERP Different?
🔹 No Extreme Exposures – We never push clients into unethical or extreme exposures like licking toilets or engaging in distressing imaginal exposures.
🔹 Values-Based Approach – Instead of forcing habituation, we focus on helping you act in alignment with your goals, values, and personal growth.
🔹 Neurodivergent-Affirming – Research shows that autistic and ADHD individuals do not habituate to exposures like neurotypical people. Our ERP respects sensory sensitivities and individual needs, ensuring therapy is safe and effective for neurodivergent clients.
🔹 Empowering, Not Harmful – We never force or encourage uncomfortable, unnecessary, or sensory-related exposures that could cause harm or distress. Our goal is to empower you to face fears in a way that supports long-term recovery.

Anxiety is our body’s natural alert system. We need it to survive. If you’re hiking in the woods and hear a loud growl, your body will fire off chemicals causing you to feel anxiety. Instead of continuing to walk towards the growling, your anxiety keeps you out of danger by going down a different path or preparing yourself for the danger that is about to come. We aren’t aiming to get rid of your anxiety because you need it. We are aiming to change your relationship with anxiety, and provide you with the necessary tools to determine what is a real threat vs. a perceived threat
